IKEA x Swedish House Mafia Drop a Banger of a Collection
What do you get when two Swedish powerhouses join forces? Well, we got our answer during the IKEA Festival during the 2022 Milan Design Week when the home living icon revealed three products from the upcoming OBEGRÄNSAD collection. Headlined by a desk for music production, an armchair as well as a record player, the OBEGRÄNSAD collection is the marriage between Swedish furniture monster IKEA and pioneers of electronic music, Swedish House Meatballs Mafia.

“OBEGRÄNSAD” is Swedish for “unlimited”, and it isn’t just a coincidence. IKEA suggested the name hints at the target group of the collection: those with “limited budget, but unlimited creativity”. According to the band, the new collection will enable people to create a versatile home studio for an affordable price, whether you are a music producer, DJ or musician.
Kicking off the collection is the OBEGRÄNSAD record player, a sleek, minimalist style music player that works in tandem with the IKEA ENEBY speaker. It features a solid, chunky design, giving the finished product greater depth and a larger in-room visual presence, however, it maintains a supremely stylistic form function. Next up is the OBEGRÄNSAD desk, which IKEA describes as a core solution for upcoming music creators.

“Sound is everything in music, and we have added two speaker stands to the desk in order to bring the speakers to the ear level. We have also added a pull-out shelf below the desktop,” IKEA in-house designer Friso Wiersma said. “This functionality allows you to have a midi keyboard, for example, in easy reach, while maximising space on your desktop.”
But as much as the new pieces are stunning, music is only worthy if it can be listened to, and what better way to enjoy the tones emerging from your favourite vinyl, than in the OBEGRÄNSAD armchair? Completing the collection, the chair arrives as a subtle respite from its otherwise productivity and creativity-led stablemate. Featuring a minimalistic design complete with adjustable straps to strengthen functionality, the versatile armchair allows the owner to finetune the comfort level. According to Swedish House Mafia, the new collaboration encompasses all elements of the creative and listening experience without breaking the bank.

“We strongly felt a need to collaborate with someone who shared our vision of making it possible for everyone to create music at home,” Swedish House Mafia said. “As artists and producers, we also understand the importance of a home studio set-up and the needs and challenges many up-and-coming artists and creatives have at home.”
The OBEGRÄNSAD collection will be launched in Australian Spring, 2022. The collection will also include more than 20 home furnishing products that will make living spaces better suited to the needs of music creators and music fans around the world.
