NFL Owner’s Palace on Sale for a Record-Breaking $70.5 Million
If you think football players have it good with their extravagant paychecks, an NFL owner’s bank account is on an entirely different level. It’s like the famous saying goes, “there’s rich, and then there’s NFL owner rich.” And speaking of, the head honcho of the Washington Commanders, Dan Snyder, is about to command a pretty penny with the reported listing of his palace for a staggering USD$49 million (AU$70.5 million). If the price target is reached, it will become the most expensive residential real estate sale in the DC metropolitan area, hurdling the current record held by… Mr Snyder.

Snyder’s River House boasts a French chateau-style home that spreads across 15 acres of prime Potomac real estate. The gated property features five bedrooms and 13.5 bathrooms, with a two-story reception hall, a 24-foot-tall limestone fireplace, a chef’s kitchen, a gym, a spa, a wine cellar, and a home theatre. The primary suite on the third floor has its own private sitting and dressing areas, an office, and two spa-style bathrooms.
In addition to the main house, the property includes a two-bedroom guest house, a manager’s house with staff bedrooms, a gatehouse, a pool, a motor court, a 12-car garage, a basketball court, and gardens resembling 18th-century England.

Snyder purchased the first part of the property from King Hussein and Queen Noor of Jordan in 2000 for $8.64 million (AU$12.42), then expanded the estate by purchasing six additional lots. This was his second major real estate purchase after buying a 16.5-acre estate in Alexandria for $48 million in 2021, the highest residential real estate sale in the DC area at the time.
The River House has been privately up for sale for several years, but this is the first time it has been publicly listed. As Snyder considers selling the Washington Commanders, this move to sell his Potomac estate seems to indicate a change in priorities for the billionaire. Regardless of the reasons behind the sale, it’s clear that the River House is a luxurious and extravagant piece of real estate that will be a hot commodity on the market.
The prestigious property is being listed by Heather Corey and Michael Rankin of TTR Sotheby’s International Realty.
