Audi Rolls out an E-Tron Electric Scooter for your Commute

Audi has a new market in mind—the multi-modal mobility urban crowd. The Audi E-Tron Scooter is meant for sporty riders trying to get around in a busy city. The scooter combines an electric scooter and a skateboard, which changes up the whole dynamic of how the scooter handles, making it more like surfing waves.

Riders need only keep one hand on the handlebar, but it’s not the handlebar that controls the scooter; rather, riders steer by shifting their weight, much like a skateboard or surfboard.

Thorsten Schrader, the project manager for micro-mobility at Audi had this to say about the new E-Tron Electric Scooter: “With the Audi E-Tron Scooter, we appeal to customers who are on the move in cities, sustainably and multi-modally—and for whom style and functionality are important. Of course, the E-Tron Scooter also moves straight ahead. But the flow only comes when you start carving on asphalt—and that is surprisingly easy with our new concept.”

The handle isn’t just decorative. It helps with balance but also housed the battery and the electronics, as well as a display to show the battery status. The twist grip is used to either accelerate or decelerate. Stopping happens with the scooter’s brakes, which also recover lost energy.

The scooter’s design allows it to be easily folded up and stowed away. Weighing only 26 pounds, the scooter can be carried to and from without difficulty. It also comes with LED lights—a headlight, daytime running light, rear light, and brake light. The scooter has a 12.5-mile range and can hit a top speed of 12.5 miles per hour.

Charging can be done at home, or, if you purchase an Audi E-Tron model car, you may be able to charge the scooter in the trunk using a dedicated socket. The scooter comes in either grey or black and with either a wood or carbon fibre deck.
