Aston Martin is ready to take the “hyper” in “hypercar” to the next level by teaming up with Red Bull Racing for their new marvel on wheels: the Aston Martin AM-RB 001. It sounds like a match made in adrenaline-pumping heaven and the result so far is a spectacular prototype that’s as sleek as anything we’ve ever seen.
If there are two things two take away from the new AM-RB 001 they would have to be the revolutionary aerodynamic structure and the naturally aspirated V12 engine. To achieve breathless efficiency and what Aston Martin is calling “unprecedented levels of downforce in a road-legal car”, the premier automaker employed the use of lightweight carbon fibre and underfloor aerodynamics. Giving the hypercar its soul is a mid-mounted, high revving V12 engine that accomplishes a 1:1 power-to-weight ratio. Based strictly on the photos and the specs this looks like a vehicle that will run so smoothly it might slip past the sound barrier when no one’s paying attention.
Taking the lion’s share of credit for this insanely versatile beast are genius designer Adrian Newey from Red Bull Racing, Aston Martin EVP and Chief Creative Officer Marek Reichman, and Aston Martin VP and Chief Special Operations Officer David King. Aston Martin is expected to make between 99 and 150 road cars and 25 track-only versions and the AM-RB 001. The new hypercar is planned for a 2018 release so start saving now.
