When we saw the BMW R65 Willoughby from Switzerland-based VTR Customs, we were absolutely smitten. This custom build might be the next hit of the summer. It may just inspire you to plan your next getaway to somewhere way outside of the city—to a place where the sound of waves break the silence, and the sun shines brightly.
VTR Customs is a small Swiss shop that specialises mainly in BMW conversions. They came onto the scene just a little over a year ago with an award-winning build that was more of a work of art than a motorcycle. Now, the group is back with another amazing build.
The Willoughby 65 started its life as a 1982 BMW R65. The name refers to a Rock Hudson movie from the 1960s. VTR Customs upgraded the BMW R65 a Siebenrock 860cc Power Kit, a custom 2-in-1 exhaust, Keihin FCR 39 flat side carburettors and a ÖHLINS BlackLine damper. With 70 horsepower, the Willoughby 65 has more than enough power to get you where you need to go fast.
The bike was also given an upgraded speedometer with a new custom dial, a small integrated LED rear light and Firestone Deluxe tires. To finish out the build, VTR Customs gave the Willoughby 65 a vintage blue paint job. Because you never know where the road will take you, this bike is finished out with a vintage canoe paddle and fishing rod. These final touches pay homage to old-fashioned lazy Saturday afternoons. We could go for an old-fashioned lazy afternoon. How about you?
