Aston Martin has a new project in the works that appropriately feels like something out of a James Bond movie. The luxury automaker has joined forces with Florida-based Triton Submarines LLC for a concept design that will soon become a limited edition submersible. Code-named Project Neptune, the sleek three-man submarine is a sight to behold and possibly a glimpse toward the future of luxury underwater craft itself.
To be clear, Triton Submarines LLC was already making compact, supremely operational three-man submersibles built for underwater exploration. However, with Aston Martin now in the picture, the vessels take on entirely new physical and aesthetic dimension. To quote Aston Martin Chief Creative Officer Marek Reichman, “We have used forms and proportions that express the same devotion to design, engineering and beauty that shape our cars, such as the Aston Martin Valkyrie hypercar project.”
In addition to being downright awesome, Project Neptune represents the current trend of successful companies stepping outside their comfort zones to explore new ground. Occasionally, these companies break the very ground they’re exploring. To that point, Project Neptune is being touted by Aston Martin as the lightest and smallest three-man sub in production. Needless to say, it’s also the sexiest. For about $4 million USD, it can be all yours.
