Invictus GT320 Versilys: Super-Yacht With a Solid Marble Deck

Yachts have been typically associated with teak surfacing but they do come with their own set of disadvantages and marble could be an intriguing alternative. The new GT320 Versilys from Invictus is a massive watercraft that uses a thin slab of marble for the deck surfacing as well as the galley. Versilys marble is also used for the kitchenette in the cockpit to the bathroom top and its washbasin. Talk about high seas luxury.

The yacht matches the grey colour tone of the marble with its ‘Titanium cushions’ and the use of an ‘Attack grey’ colour. If you’re wondering about the weight penalty from using marble then it’s actually not that much as the full-load weight of the yacht is only 70 kg more than the standard model without the marble surfacing. Performance is in plenty thanks to the use of two Volvo Penta V8 engines with 350 horsepower each. Invictus has also tried to off-set the additional weight by using more carbon parts like the hard-top and even the support poles of the aft awning are made from the same material.

The design of the yacht also encapsulates the essence of marble along with a sculptural twist to it. Designed by Christian Grande, the yacht aims to revisit the thought of using marble on a modern luxury yacht.

“Ours is an era that celebrates the unusual and the paradoxical, capable of integrating contrasts and transforming any apparent contradiction into a wealth of meaning. In the wake of this idea, what is apparently irreconcilable finds its space: stone and sea, archetypal elements, meet and merge in the space of thirty-two feet,” Grande explained.

“As for the Renaissance artists, who animated the marble of their sculptures with throbbing muscles and veins, once again intention shapes reality through technique. The infinite complexity of a process translates into an immediate, authentic, true form: the original, in a single instant, becomes a Classic.”

Marble in many ways is more durable than teak and is certainly different looking while also being much easier to clean and repair. Plus, as mentioned earlier the weight increase is insignificant given the fact that the standard version weighs 8 tonnes. Marble previously has been used for the interior on many yachts albeit on a limited scale but the use of marble on walkable surfaces brings an interesting question as to how Invictus will deal with the fact that marble is very slippery. That said, marble is more exotic and is an expensive stone which further makes this a yacht fit for a king!
