New Zealand’s finest Shipwrights Sealegs continues its boating revolution, gearing up for the maiden voyage of its latest amphibious watercraft the Electric E4. Sealegs’ Electric E4 is better, faster and more powerful than its previous amphibious craft. It’s all thanks to advances in lithium batteries and brushless electric hub motor technology. And the ‘amphibious’ part, well, Sealegs’ watercraft have wheels so you can drive directly from the beach or boat shed to the high seas without reversing that annoying trailer.
“The release of the Sealegs Electric E4 takes Sealegs global leadership position in amphibious technology to the next level,” says Maurice Bryham, Sealegs Founder and Chief Technology Officer. “With Sealegs Electric E4 we have made our amphibious system 33% faster, 60% quieter and 50% more powerful.”
The 7.3m Sealegs Electric E4 features new design DNA and a futuristic “glass bridge” flush mounted console dash. Buttons conveniently located within the steering wheel control the deployment of the amphibious wheels. The steering wheel and controls can be operated by one hand, meaning an individual can handle everything without assistance. The high-density 7kWh lithium battery delivers up to 20 return trips between water and land on a single charge.
Charging comes via the built-in main charger as well regenerative braking on land and on-water from the outboard. Mechanical brakes are integrated into the hub motors. A high contrast, marinised 24” touchscreen with Sealegs AmpTracs gives concise and vital information to the operator via its large and easy to use interactive graphics. The innovative layout seats eight people with a picnic/workstation table and a daybed sun-lounger is located at the bow.
