For the first time since 1971, Chevy has given a convertible the ZR1 designation to a convertible. The 2019 Corvette ZR1 Convertible is an extreme machine. Built around a supercharged LT5 V-8, the ZR1 boasts 755 horsepower. That much power means when you have the top down and you’re cruising the highway, the wind blowing through your hair may be strong enough to start thinning your hair out.
The top is powered and can be operated at speeds up to 30 mph. A remote fob also allows you to open or close the roof either in or out of the car. You might think that adding such a roof would increase the car’s weight, and it does, but only by about 60 pounds. Aside from the roof and some slight adjustments to seatbelt mounts and accommodations for the folded roof, the convertible matches up to the coupe—including the front fascia, fenders, and hood (with a cut out that makes the top of the engine visible). You can choose between the seven-speed manual or eight-speed automatic. An adjustable High Wing is also available.
Aside from looking great, the ZR1 convertible is a true performer. That 755 horsepower dishes out 715 lb-ft of torque and tops out at over 200 mph. It’s 0-60 is less than three seconds, and it can complete the quarter mile in under 11 seconds. So, while the wind may be pulling out your hair, you’ll be going so fast no one will notice.
