2022 Mercedes-Maybach S 680 Sedan Proves More is Better
“More is better” is a mantra that is often decried, yet almost always secretly agreed with. For Mercedes-Maybach, there’s no secret about it. They full-on accepted the idea of putting more into their vehicle, adding cylinders to their V8 powered Maybach S580. According to CarAdvice, the result is a V12-powered S 680 that offers more power—some 621 horsepower and 738 lb-ft of torque.

Astute observers will note that the engine in question is actually a carry-over from the last generation of the Maybach S 650. The difference is that the S 680 mates the engine with a 4Matic all-wheel-drive transmission. The S 680 also gets rear-wheel steering as standard, which greatly improves agility and reduces the turning radius. The car doesn’t feature the EQ Boost technology, but that doesn’t stop it from going from 0 to 60 miles per hour in just 4.4 seconds.
The S 680 also gets more in terms of its looks, with a bespoke grille and stainless steel for the exterior trim on the lower intake, the side sills, and the rear bar. Buyers can also specify which colors they want for the two-tone paint scheme (there are 10 contrasting colors available). On the inside, driver and passengers are treated to Nappa leather, which is found even on the headlining and the dash. The rear headrests come with duck-down pillows, power reclining, and heated and cooled massaging chairs.
The car also features a sliding panoramic roof and motion-controlled rear window shades. You can also get power-closing doors and a champagne cooler complete with silver-plated flutes. The dash sports a 12.8-inch touchscreen infotainment display powered by the latest MBUX infotainment software from Mercedes. In the back, passengers can enjoy dual 11.6-inch entertainment screens. The car also comes with plenty of soundproofing, which will make enjoying the 4D Burmester surround sound hi-fi with active noise cancellation that much easier. Pricing will no doubt exceed the $200,000 mark, but if you want more, you have to expect to pay more to get it.
