Dodge is celebrating the current Charger with a line-up of special-edition ‘Last Call’ models before it all goes electric and fake exhausts. We earlier saw the Challenger Shakedown and now the Charger Super Bee arrives as the second special edition. The Super Bee badge should ring a bell amongst muscle car fans since it was first seen on the Charger in 1971 while the current iteration stays faithful to the original concept of a drag strip-focussed machine.
The special-edition vehicle will see a production run of only 1,000, with 500 Dodge Charger Scat Pack (in B5 Blue) and 500 Charger Scat Pack Widebody (in Plum Crazy) vehicles planned for production.
“The Dodge Super Bee is more than commemorative of a cool heritage name – it is also a Charger variant of the Challenger 1320 grassroots race package,” said Tim Kuniskis, Dodge brand chief executive officer at Stellantis.
When it comes to the exterior styling, you won’t miss the Super Bee Charger in the parking lot with its bright paint and ‘Super Bee’ graphics, while similar badges are also there on the grille and front fenders.
The Super Bee Widebody gets 18-by-11-inch drag wheels with 315 drag radials while the narrow body has 20-by-9.5-inch knurled wheels with 275 drag radials. These tyres would make it perfectly suitable for the drag strip – less so for the school run. Dodge has also fitted adaptive damping suspension with a ‘Drag Mode’ much like the Challenger SRT Demon.
Look beyond that retina-searing paint job and you’ll spot the SRT hood with functional scoop and dual heat extractors, black exhaust tips and red four-piston Brembo brakes. Inside, you get the Super Bee interior instrument panel badge and even more Super Bee seatback logos.
The ‘Last Call’ models signify the end of both the Challenger plus the Charger while Dodge will reveal six more Challenger and Charger models through September 21. The seventh and final 2023 Dodge model will be revealed at the 2022 SEMA Show in Las Vegas.
