The striking Aston Martin DBS Superleggera made its debut in a bold video reflecting the supercar’s power, dynamics and sleek black paint job. Obviously, it’s available in more colours than black, but you have to admit, the video wouldn’t be half as impressive if another colour was used.
As Aston Martin’s new Super GT flagship, DBS Superleggera replaces the Vanquish S. With a top speed of 339km/h and achieving 0-100km/h in just 3.4 seconds, it’s more than a fair substitute. The heart of the Superleggera is Aston Martin’s 5.2-litre twin-turbo V12 engine. It’s set low and as far back in the chassis as possible to optimise the centre-of-gravity and weight distribution. Add the new exhaust strategy with active valves and quad tailpipes, and you also have a commanding and powerful sound character. You wouldn’t expect any less from a super GT. Nor should you.
DBS Superleggera generates 180kg of downforce at VMAX: the highest figure ever for a series production Aston Martin. This significant increase comes with no additional drag penalty. It’s all thanks to the curlicue, Aeroblade and an F1-inspired double-diffuser. The chassis is an evolution of the latest generation lightweight bonded aluminium first seen on the DB11. Then it’s clad using muscular carbon fibre body panels.
The interior makes use of sensors that detect the prevailing driving conditions, and drivers have the choice of three dynamic modes – GT, Sport and Sport Plus. There’s also a generous level of equipment included as standard: keyless entry, tyre pressure monitoring, a 360-degree parking camera, iPhone playback, sat nav and a wi-fi hub controlled via the central LCD screen and central dial.
Thanks to its flagship status, the Superleggera includes a high level of craftsmanship with extensive scope for personalisation. Aromatic leather and Alcantara upholstery are standard inclusions, as are the Sports Plus performance seats. There is a choice of two alloy wheel designs and specially chosen colour and trim combinations selected by the Aston Martin Design Team to accentuate certain aspects of the vehicle’s character.
We bid farewell to the Vanquish S and offer a warm welcome to the DBS Superleggera which arrives Q3 2018. The super GT is priced from USD $304,995.
