Aston Martin Valkyrie AMR Pro Tosses the Rule Book
The original Aston Martin Valkyrie road car is a cemented fire-breathing classic. It was built with character in mind, featuring enough Aston Martin flair to raise the hairs on your arms and provide a tingling sensation by any stretch of the imagination. So if the original is anything to go off, the latest Valkyrie AMR Pro is surely going to further explore the extremes of performance and character by forgetting about racing regulations and road legal registration.

The inspiration for the vehicle began in 2019 when Aston Martin, Adrian Newey, Red Bull Advanced Technologies (RBAT) and engineering partner Multimatic worked intensively on an Aston Martin Valkyrie race car design. The aim? To win the 24hr Le Mans race in the new Hypercar class. The result? A design that has now formed the basis of the radical new Valkyrie AMR Pro.
Originally designed and manufactured to be the ultimate road-legal racecar, the original Valkyrie had to leave a couple of feature on the drawing board to pass strict racing and street-use regulations. However, this latest model forgets all about mirrors, wheelbases, and track widths. Instead, the AMR Pro focuses on showcasing the pure capabilities of Aston Martin Racing resulting in a hypercar with capabilities that now exceed those of the machine designed to challenge for outright victory in the Le Mans 24 Hours.
“Valkyrie AMR Pro is a project beyond compare, a true ‘no rules’ track-only version. The Valkyrie AMR Pro is testament to Aston Martin’s commitment to pure performance and this performance DNA will be evident in our future product portfolio,” said Aston Martin Chief Executive Officer, Tobias Moers.
The Valkyrie AMR Pro is a car of unprecedented potency. Taking a chassis that was already full of accuracy and character and making some acute changes. The Pro takes the original chassis and frees it from regulation with a wheelbase that is 380mm longer and 96mm wider in track at the front; 115mm at the rear. Valkyrie AMR Pro also features an aggressive aerodynamic package that adds an additional 266mm in length, and thanks to the mastery of underbody and overwing airflow, generates extraordinary levels of downforce. Comfortably delivering twice the amount of downforce than the Valkyrie road car. To put that in perspective, the Valkyrie AMR Pro will achieve lateral acceleration of more than 3G which is not far from a Formula 2 racecar which maxes around 3.9G.

However big the changes, thankfully, our favourite part of the Valkyrie remains intact. The Valkyrie AMR Pro relies solely on a modified version of the sensational Cosworth-built 6.5-litre naturally aspirated V12 engine. Revving to 11,000rpm, this masterpiece of internal combustion develops about 1000bhp. Weight savings come by way of a deleted battery-electric hybrid system, ultra-lightweight carbon fibre bodywork, carbon suspension wishbones and Perspex windscreen and side windows.
To complement the track-only Valkyrie AMR Pro, customers will receive the opportunity to attend a bespoke track day experience, hosted by Aston Martin at a selection of International FIA Circuits around the world. The experience will include track and pit lane access, support from the Aston Martin Valkyrie Instructor team, as well as FIA exclusive racewear and a VIP, hosted dinner. We couldn’t think of a better way to experience the visceral nature of such a vehicle.
All cars will be left-hand drive, with a production run of 40 cars plus two prototypes. First deliveries are scheduled to commence in Q4 2021.
