Philadelphia 76ers’ newest acquisition and number one 2016 draft pick Ben Simmons posted an image of himself standing next to his latest acquisition, a new Rolls-Royce from Champion Motoring. Not bad for a kid who claims that he was offered plenty of gifts while playing at Louisiana State University. One of those gifts just happened to be a Rolls-Royce. But when you’re picking up a rookie paycheck that was reportedly for over $6 million, you can buy your own gifts, thank you very much.
Simmons, who was born in Melbourne, Australia, was one of the hottest basketball players when he was recruited to play at LSU. Under NCAA rules, a player is required to play at least one year before becoming eligible for the NBA draft. Simmons put in that time, and hasn’t had very many good things to say about the experience, calling it a waste of time. During that time, he was offered gifts for playing, though he has been tight-lipped about who offered the gifts. “Bentley, a Wraith Rolls-Royce, watches, jewelery, a house…anything,” reported Simmons in a film for ESPN. “It literally is anything. People coming at you, offering you things.” No doubt that was a hard temptation to pass up, especially for a professional athlete who has since started his own collection of Ferraris, Bentleys, and Rolls Royces, and it looks like Simmons will keep adding to that collection.
The angle of the picture posted by Simmons on Instagram with the Rolls-Royce doesn’t give you much to go on, other than the characteristic Rolls’ flat grille. Judging from the other cars in his collection, though, you can safely bet that Simmons didn’t skimp on this purchase. Simmons was spotted out car shopping with Tristan Thompson of the Cleveland Cavaliers.
