Some cars are built purely with the driver in mind—the driver’s comfort, experience, and performance. Other cars are built for the passenger’s, with the idea of pampering and catering to their whims while they are conveyed from place to place. Rarely does a car answer both sets of needs, and even more rarely with the kind of luxury that Bentley puts into their vehicles. The 2021 Bentley Flying Spur does more than you would expect for both driver and passengers, and it does so with a panache that is entirely unrivalled.
The new Flying Spur comes with Bentley’s twin-turbocharged W12—a powertrain capable of 626 horsepower fed into an eight-speed dual-clutch automatic all-wheel drive. Bentley has plans for a 542 horsepower V8 as well. The W12 uses its 12 cylinders to leap from 0 to 60 miles per hour in just 3.5 seconds. It’s also extremely responsive to the driver thanks to its adaptive suspension and rear-wheel-steering system. Having that much power and performance does mean that the Flying Spur doesn’t pull any punches when it comes to fuel consumption. That being said, it’s not terrible, coming in with a respectable 12 miles per gallon in the city and 19 miles per gallon on the highway.
The interior comes decked out in luxurious touches, such as plenty of wood trim and real metal accents. Legroom is spacious, both in the front and the back, and there’s plenty of leather to keep things comfortable and stylish. The Flying Spur also comes with plenty of tech. The touchscreen can also be controlled by a remote that is mounted on the rear of the centre console so that even passengers in the back can adjust different settings without having to bother the driver. The touchscreen controls things like the window shades, cabin climate, and even the rear-seat massagers. Finally, there’s plenty of luggage space as well, not that you’ll want to exit the Flying Spur when you get to your destination.
As you would rightfully expect, the 2021 Bentley Flying Spur doesn’t come cheap. The starting price comes in at $219,425. But for that money, you’ll get a car that will please everyone—driver and passengers.
