Bespoke Rolls-Royce Wraith Kryptos is Encrypted with a Secret Message

It’s no secret that Rolls-Royce makes some outstanding luxury vehicles, having been at the height of the sophisticated auto-market for decades. What is a mystery, however, is just what’s lurking beneath the surface of the new Rolls-Royce Wraith Kryptos. According to the British automotive icon, the latest release is encrypted with a secret message that only the CEO and the designer know.

The entire vehicle is wrapped in ciphers placed in all locations that, when solved, reveal the hidden message. According to Rolls-Royce, the Wraith Kryptos Collections’ cipher evolves throughout the car for the client’s pleasure and amusement, leading them on a journey of discovery and intrigue. From the outside, the ciphers appear to be a purely aesthetic choice, however, those lucky few who get close enough to look deeper will notice there is more than meets the eye.

The cryptographic journey starts with the Spirit of Ecstasy, Rolls-Royce’s signature icon. An engraving with green enamel detailing introduces the Rolls-Royce cipher on the base of the figurine. Below, recrafted bumper inserts draw the eye lower, reimagining both the gesture and posture of Wraith, giving this Collection an identity of its own.

“The name Kryptos is derived from Ancient Greek, referring to something unseen, hidden and coded, mythical even. Ciphers can be traced through millennia, capturing the imagination of some of the world’s most brilliant minds,” Rolls-Royce bespoke designer, Katrin Lehmann said. “As a designer, I’ve always been fascinated by the notion that you can communicate messages that are understood by only an elite few, using symbols, pictograms, and ciphers. Finding the key becomes integral to appreciating the full meaning of an item that can otherwise be viewed simply as a work of art.”

So secretive is the Rolls-Royce Wraith Kryptos Collection that only two people know the cipher’s true meaning. The answer has been placed in a sealed envelope, in the safe of the chief executive officer, at the home of Rolls-Royce, in Goodwood, West Sussex. Clients will be invited to submit their efforts at cracking the code via the members-only Rolls-Royce Application, Whispers.

The new Rolls-Royce Wraith Kryptos’ ciphers are a wholly immersive design choice. Elements are embroidered into the headrests, an Anthracite base colour exposes green mica flakes and illuminated treadplates reveal hidden light. While the car itself is a marvel of modern luxury, the real interest appears to be in cracking the code. With only a select few offered the chance, it might be some time before we see the hidden message brought to light.
