Bollinger Motors Trucks are Keepers for Life

Most products are designed to have a short life. New cars typically last around 11 years. That wasn’t the vision behind Bollinger Motors. This automaker envisions a truck that you hold onto for life. “We’re hoping our (vehicle) lifespan is longer. The idea is that, once you buy this truck, you keep it for the rest of your life,” states Robert Bollinger, the man behind the vision. “So, 15 years from now, when batteries are a tenth of the size and weight, it’d be great to sell a new battery pack to a buyer.”Bollinger's classic design truck

Bollinger’s trucks rely on classic designs. A big part of that design decision is based on the company’s commitment to handcrafting the vehicle. “We wanted to make it ourselves by hand and not stamp pieces. So, once you have flat sheets that you’re bending, you’re in that camp. It limits you ,but in a good way I think.” The straight lines and flat panels give the truck a characteristic look.

The body is completely aluminium to cut back on the weight. That weight is nearly split between the front and back (45/55). They also have 15 inches of ground clearance and a huge approach of 52 degrees, a break over of 30 degrees, and a departure of 43 degrees.

Bollinger will keep things simple on the inside. “You’re not going to feel like you’re in a prison. Heated seats will be an option, that kind of thing. But we want to keep it all about being hands on so, when you want to leave the rest of the digital world behind, our truck is the one that you leave it in,” states Bollinger. That means everything is pretty much manual—the windows and door locks most notably. And there definitely isn’t any connectivity with this beast.

But that’s not to say the trucks aren’t modern. They are, after all, fully electric with a dual-motor system that can produce 614 horsepower and 668 lb-ft of instant torque. The truck hits 60 from 0 in just 4.5 seconds and has a top speed of 100 miles per hour. Plus, it’s rated for a 5,000 pound payload and can tow up to 7,500 pounds. And it has a 200-mile range, with more in the city thanks to regenerative braking.

This no-frills truck is one that you’ll keep for a lifetime because it’s built to last that long.
