Some of us can’t necessarily afford a new Porsche GT3 just yet. Sigh. While we wait for that million-dollar idea to come around and start fueling life-size dream cars, we’ll just keep ourselves entertained with LEGO’s Technic Porsche 911 GT3 RS in the meantime. And if that sounds kind of pathetic then you probably haven’t read the specs because this Lego Technic model is awesome and pretty sophisticated.
For starters, the design was co-developed by Porsche themselves and given how much detail went into the result it’s quite possible the German car company spent a little too much time on the LEGO car–they do have actual, real cars to make after all. Nevertheless, we’re thankful for the effort since the sleek orange mini-Porsche features a bounty of incredible details like aerodynamic bodywork, adjustable rear spoiler, and a cockpit complete with racing seats, a gearbox, steering wheels, and gearshift paddles. As if that wasn’t even close to sufficient, LEGO went and installed a flat 6 engine with moving pistons under the hood, suspensions springs, brake calipers and road-gripping tires with custom rims!
The LEGO Technic Porsche comes with 2700 pieces so you’ll want to dedicate some time to building it and you just be an amateur mechanic by the time your done. Then you can take a step back and simply marvel at the orange masterpiece you helped build before taking it for a little test drive, the wheels spinning and pistons pumping and the rims bouncing sunlight across the room. Yeah, we don’t sound so silly playing with our toy now, do we?
