Celebrities are Going Nuts for this Upgraded Ford F-100

It’s a term that gets thrown around a little too easily these days, but Ford has broken the internet by unveiling an F-100 electric restomod. Showcasing their latest project at the annual SEMA Show, Ford and MLe Racecars stripped the 1978 F-100 pickup entirely and chucked in a wide range of modifications. Unsurprisingly, the legendary silhouette with its all-new enhancements caught the eye of several celebrities, who took to social media to express their deep desire to bring this concept vehicle to life.

Taken aback, vlogger and Youtube sensation Casey Neistat tweeted on Tuesday: “careful Ford. you go release a truck like this and you’re gonna find yourself atop the throne for the coolest (expletive) car company on the planet.”

Jim Farley, Ford CEO and ultimate tease, replied to Casey, “Who doesn’t love a throwback? I’ll see what I can do.”

Other admirers included Grammy-winning singer-songwriter Jason Isbel, formerly of the Drive-By Truckers, who tweeted to his 407,000 followers, “I will buy the living hell out of this if you make it.”

The one-of-a-kind prototype features an electric powertrain from the automaker’s Mach-E GT Performance Edition front and rear motors. The battery type is unknown, but the all-wheel-drive can now deliver an incredible 480 horsepower and a 634 pound-feet of torque.

Putting the obvious grunt aside, the F-100 also copped a bunch of bespoke upgrades. Custom-built by Roadster Shop, the chassis was lowered to complement the 19-inch wheels carrying dog-dish wheel caps. The paint job was altered from its original chrome and stainless steel finish to a retro white tone accentuated with copper accents. As for the interior, the vehicle now comes equipped with a custom billet dashboard with instrument panels as well as infotainment technology inspired by the Mustang Mach-E itself.

The futuristic retro F-100 is unfortunately not for sale; fans can build something similar using Ford’s 281-horsepower crate motor, which is currently priced at USD$3,900 (AU$5275). While you’ll have to source parts and modifications separately, Ford Performance has stated it’ll be offering those items soon.
