How could you possibly beat a 1956 Raven Black Ford Thunderbird? A 1956 Raven Black Ford Thunderbird once owned by Marilyn Monroe.
Julien’s Auctions has Marilyn Monroe’s 1956 Raven Black Ford Thunderbird for auction. Monroe owned the car from 1955 to 1962—a special time in the life of the star. Rumour suggests that this was the very car that Monroe drove to her civil marriage on June 28, 1956, and her private wedding on June 30, 1956, to noted playwright Arthur Miller. Reportedly a Christmas gift from business partner and photographer Milton Greene, the car represented freedom to Monroe. Milton’s wife, Amy, recalls how much Monroe enjoyed taking the car on the highway with the top down and the heater on.
The Thunderbird features a 225 horsepower V8 with a top speed of 113 miles per hour. Designed to take on the Chevy Corvette, the Thunderbird had a roadster body with two doors and emphasized driver comfort. The 1956 model also featured the spare wheel mounted on the outside to provide more trunk space. Monroe’s car came straight from the factory with both a canvas top and a detachable hard top with “porthole” windows.
Monroe’s 1956 Thunderbird is expected to go for an estimated USD$300,000 to $500,000.
