To celebrate 50 years of officially selling its wares in Australia, Honda has built a fleet of one-off golden products that includes everything from a lawnmower to an NSX hybrid supercar. Unfortunately, the celebratory golden products are not for sale. Instead, Honda will use them throughout the year to inspire.
Honda partnered with Melbourne-based Vinyl Wraps and Graphics to conceptualise and produce the striking gold bodywork on each of the products. A gold chrome film was laminated with a clear satin to help disperse reflections, resulting in a unique and refined finish that changes tone with the prevailing light source.
The full collection consists of 2 cars, 3 motorcycles, a premium lawnmower and a generator. Here’s the complete rundown:
• NSX hybrid supercar
• Civic Type R high-performance hot hatch
• CBR1000RR Fireblade motorcycle from the Supersport range
• CRF450L next-generation motorcycle from the Enduro range
• CRF50F Kids Fun bike, Honda’s best-selling off-road machine
• HRU19 Buffalo Premium lawnmower, built in Australia
• EU22i Generator, the world’s best-selling Super Quiet, leisure generator
“To Honda, performance means more than speed – each product is designed to perform at a level that exceeds the expectations of the customer,” says Hiroyuki Shimizu, Managing Director and CEO of Honda Australia.
“We’re looking forward to showcasing these amazing golden products around the country throughout 2019, so stay tuned for more information on that front.”
Although Honda products had been imported and distributed around Australia by a variety of companies since the 1950s, the brand’s official local presence began in Melbourne in 1969. The early line-up consisted of the 360cc and 600cc-engined Scamp, followed by the Life and Z360 models. The Civic has always been a popular model in Australia, although Honda’s most iconic ride is clearly the red Honda CT110 ‘Postie Bike.’ To date, over 5 million Honda products have been sold within Australia.
“I am very proud to be a second-generation Managing Director of Honda Australia and incredibly grateful to all our customers for their ongoing loyalty, trust and belief in the Honda name,” added Shimizu.
