Koenigsegg RAW Concept is an ‘Entry-Level’ 700HP Supercar

Koenigsegg has a design consultancy named RAW Design House, and a design student named Esa Mustonen has created a concept for them that is meant to be an entry-level, affordable supercar worthy of the Koenigsegg name.

Mustonen is a student at Lahti University of Applied Sciences in Finland, and he already has a pretty impressive curriculum vitae. As an intern, Mustonen worked at both Renault and Genesis. He also worked with Christian von Koenigsegg, who is the head honcho for Koenigsegg, as well as Sasha Selipanov, the manager of RAW. Mustonen put all that experience to work coming up with the RAW concept, which if rumours are true, could become a sub-brand for Koenigsegg.

Mustonen’s design features a three-seat concept that was inspired by the wedge-shaped cars of the 1970s. There are also obvious hints to modern industrial design as well as aeronautical influences. The car is marked by sharp edges and has some pretty intense overhangs. An extremely shortened rear gives more emphasis to the front and adds an illusion of height to the car. The design includes Koenigsegg’s iconic double-bubble look. It also has a wraparound windshield and a more aggressive greenhouse. Mustonen imagines the car with Koenigsegg’s three-cylinder Freevalve engine sitting behind the passenger compartment. That engine is anything but entry-level. Capable of 700 horsepower, the RAW concept would have incredible numbers, especially if they hit their target goal of 1,543 pounds.

“I developed this idea that the whole rear subframe and the engine would be fully exposed,” shared Mustonen. “The Freevalve engine is a very unique piece of engineering, so I wanted to bring the ‘soul’ of the car to be the focal point of the theme. This is also very beneficial for cooling, and with some correct air channelling, you can prevent it from disturbing the rear aerodynamics.” The engine does indeed become a focal point of the car, along with every other detail that your eye lands on. It’s an incredible design, but what would you expect from Koenigsegg?
