Lamborghini Aventador LP 780-4 Ultimae Puts an End to V12s for Good
Lamborghini may be calling time on its long-heralded V12 range, but the Italian marque is going out with a bang. In a virtual showcase overnight, the performance automaker unveiled the 2021 Lamborghini Aventador LP 780-4 Ultimae, set to be its last naturally aspirated V12 not part of a hybrid system. Better still, the last of its kind vehicle will be limited to just 350 coupes and 250 roadsters worldwide.

The last piece in a long-running puzzle, the Lamborghini Aventador LP 780-4 Ultimae is a fitting close to a heritage of V12 excellence. This iteration cops a twelve-cylinder, 6.5-litre ‘Longitudinale Posteriore’ (LP) engine delivering 780CV, a full 40CV more than the Aventador S. That high-performance motor is dumped into an ultra-lightweight frame, with the coupe version weighting 25kgs less than the S, resulting in a 0-100 km/h time of just 2.8 seconds. Throw in 720Nm of torque, a maximum 6750rpm and a top speed of 355 km/h and you’ve got a fairly solid new release.
In terms of styling, the Aventador Ultimae dials things up a notch from past variations, including a new front bumper designed to replicate the aerodynamic performance of the halo SVJ. The new front bumper also cops air ducts and cooling inlets that Lamborghini claims will reduce aerodynamic interference around the front tyres. More interestingly, a three-position active rear spoiler varies its angle depending on speed and the drive mode selected. On the ground, the Ultimae 20-inch front and 21-inch rear alloy wheels fill the arches, wrapped in Pirelli P Zero Corsa performance tyres.

Stepping inside, the new V12 features a customisable TFT digital dashboard that displays driver modes as well as controlling in-car connectivity. Here, you’ll find Apple CarPlay and the Lamborghini telemetry system available as an option for those wanting to celebrate the last Aventador on track.
According to Automobili Lamborghini president and CEO Stephan Winkelmann, the new Aventador LP 780-4 harnesses the performance of the SVJ and intensifies the sophisticated elegance of the Aventador S. “The Aventador LP 780-4 denotes the final, purest, timeless naturally-aspirated production V12 Lamborghini. It delivers the essential twelve-cylinder experience in terms of inimitable design, engineering solutions and the most emotive driving experience, and is the definitive Aventador concluding an extraordinary era,” Winkelmann said.

“It is the last of its kind: it delivers the maximum power and conclusive performance expected from Lamborghini’s current V12 engine, combined with our inimitable flagship’s design DNA. The Aventador was destined to become a classic from launch, and the Aventador LP 780-4 is the most beautiful expression of timeless design and technical solutions in a final edition: Ultimae.”
The new Aventador LP780-4 Ultimae will make its public debut at this week’s Goodwood Festival of Speed. Australian pricing and launch timing for the 2021 Lamborghini Aventador LP 780-4 Ultimae have yet to be announced, however, you can expect a starting price in the seven-figure estimate.
