McLaren’s Senna Hypercar Delivers Pure Street Legal Savagery

The McLaren Senna looks and performs like a Formula One, with one fundamental difference – this beast is street legal!

McLaren’s Senna Hypercar is designed, engineered and developed with a single-minded purpose: to be the ultimate McLaren track-car for the road. Senna provides a pure connection between driver and car, for the most intense circuit experience of all of McLaren’s road fleet.

Senna’s mid-mounted 4.0-litre twin-turbocharged V8 is the most powerful internal combustion engine of any McLaren road vehicle, with 789bhp and a power to weight ratio that guarantees savage performance.

The build utilising an ultra-lightweight carbon fibre chassis and body panels, complemented by sophisticated race-derived suspension to deliver what McLaren’s dubbed “an unparalleled blend of control and dynamic balance.”

Senna is rear wheel drive, paired with electro-hydraulic steering that rewards accurate inputs and gives tight feedback. Featuring a dual-clutch and a seamless-shift, seven-speed gearbox that delivers power to the rear wheels.

Visually, the McLaren Senna is all about aggression. Its organic teardrop shape creates a design language that is purposely fragmented in pursuit of absolute performance. You cannot follow a single line from the front to the rear without passing through a functional air intake or vent. It’s all part of McLaren’s new generation of aerodynamics.

The huge, double-element carbon fibre rear wing is hydraulically actuated and continuously adjusts to optimise downforce and aerodynamic balance. Plus it doubles as an airbrake.

The cockpit reflects the stripped-back, functional nature of Senna’s build, with extensive carbon fibre and Alcantara or leather seats- buyers choice. The absence of any other interior trim saves weight and reveals the construction of the doors to its driver and passenger.

Driver controls are kept to a minimum to reduce ‘cockpit clutter,’ and the three-spoke steering wheel is free of buttons and switches. All information comes from the HD Folding Driver Display and central infotainment screen.

Senna channels one of the greatest Formula One drivers of all time – Ayrton Senna. McLaren’s Hypercar bears his name, and its build shares his racing philosophy:

“You commit yourself to such a level where there is no compromise. You give everything you have; everything, absolutely everything.”

McLaren Senna will be hand-assembled in England with production limited to 500 vehicles. Each is priced from £750,000. Unfortunately, all 500 were allocated before we even received the press release. What a tease!

McLaren’s Senna hypercar will make its public debut in March, at the 88th Geneva International Motor Show.

For more hypercar goodness, you need to see the Apollo IE. Plus Aston Martin also built a hypercar that sold out even before it’s built.
