Mercedes-AMG CLA 45 S ‘Edition 55’ is Extra-Spicy

Mercedes-AMG is celebrating its 55th anniversary in style with a duo of special editions garnished with a few dashes of spice. The A45 S and the CLA 45 S “Edition 55” get a raft of AMG design cues albeit within a stealthy prism. Shown here is the CLA 45 S, a swoopy compact luxury sedan that comes with two colour options: cosmos black metallic and digital white metallic with side decals also within the realm of good taste.

The low-slung CLA also gets a sportier face thanks to the AMG Aerodynamics package which includes a larger front splitter while the grille is darkened for the full stealth vibe. Side air outlets and a rear wing round off the design changes along with a set of tasty 19‑inch AMG cross-spoke forged wheels.

Of course, Mercedes-AMG has left no stone unturned in terms of external badging as there is a smattering of “Edition 55” logos being draped everywhere including the wheel centre caps and even the fuel filler cap which gets AMG lettering. However, the CLA 45 S “Edition 55” is more than just a show pony with some of the bits being tested in a wind tunnel and actually does improve the driving experience.

The interior on the other hand is less stealthy with the traditional flamboyant Mercedes cabin being festooned with a generous helping of AMG and here, the contrast red/black leather adds a sporty undertone to the cabin. The flat-bottomed steering wheel also gets an “Edition 55” badge and black 12 o’clock marking. AMG branded door sills with illuminated logos and AMG velour mats with red contrast stitching are some of the other additions.

These two-anniversary performance models are expected to be launched in Australia later this year while buyers would also get a special car cover finished with an AMG logo no less. Prices are yet to be announced but this limited edition would be a small batch of cars and in turn, will guarantee exclusivity. As far as birthday celebrations go, we do approve of this one!
