The Mercedes-AMG GT 63 S Edition 1 four door coupe is actually the second road car designed and engineered completely by the in-house design team and Mercedes-Benz’s AMG division. In case you didn’t know, that’s the same division that produces World Manufacturer’s Championship Formula 1 cars, so it shouldn’t be a surprise to find out that the Edition 1 has a 4.0L V8 engine with 630 horsepower and 664 lb-ft of torque that can propel the car from 0 to 60 in 3.1 seconds and has a top speed of 195 miles per hour. But what might be surprising is to find out that the structure of this speedster is based on the E63 wagon. Regardless, this four-door coupe was a hit at the Geneva International Motor Show.
The Edition 1 shares the same dashboard design and shape as the CLS, but the Edition 1 is larger. There will be a hybrid version sometime in 2020, but even then the hybrid version is being touted as a “performance hybrid.” The Edition 1 does come with a nine-speed automatic transmission and all-wheel drive, though rumors have it that a rear-wheel drive may come available someday.
The Edition one is a four door coupe, so it may seem like this will be a family car or a commuter, but even if it does end up serving such mundane tasks as shuttling employees to work or kids to games, at least they’ll show up in style and comfort—and early.
