Ram 1500 Revolution Electric Truck Concept Teases the Future of EV Pickups
It took some time but Ram’s foray into the electrified pick-up space has finally borne fruit with the 1500 Revolution BEV Concept breaking cover at CES 2023. More than just your average run-of-the-mill electric pickup, Ram really went back to the drawing board with this one. Based on a bespoke electric platform, it gives the canvas for the 1500 Revolution concept to be completely different, not to mention sprinkled with an assortment of interesting details.

From the outset, the Ram 1500 Revolution takes the formidable silhouette to the extreme. The sleek exterior is smooth and fuss-free, complete with flush door handles, integrated tow hooks and 3D-printed digital rear-view mirrors. The front end, on the other hand, is remarkably quite butch and drips with aggression (as all RAM pickups should), however, the detailing is unique with the ‘tuning fork’ LED headlamps. That’s not the only departure from the norm, either, with the Revolution copping 35-inch tyres wrapped around 24-inch wheels. The rims come complete with centre caps that remain still, much like those seen on a Rolls-Royce, which appears to be where Ram has taken its inspiration. The new 1500 Revolution also borrows Rolls’ rear-hinged doors with no B-pillar in sight.
“The Ram 1500 Revolution BEV Concept is our clearest signal yet that we’re on the precipice of something extraordinary at Ram and points directly to where we’re going on our electrified journey,” Ram brand CEO Mike Koval Jr. said. “At Ram, we’ve redefined what pickup trucks can be and will do so again by pushing past what competitors are offering by delivering the best electric pickups on the market.”

For all the glitz and glamour of the outside, Ram’s crowning achievements lie on the inside of the 1500 Revolution. Stepping inside the new battery-electric vehicle, you’re met with a series of digital screens, totalling a whopping 28 inches across, all jostling for your attention. Thankfully, you can actually remove the lower part of the screen and use it as a tablet while an augmented reality heads-up display and an AI voice assistant complete the tech fest.
“The Ram Revolution represents several important things to the Ram brand,” Koval added. “Of course, it’s our new Ram 1500 Revolution BEV Concept that serves as a roadmap to our electrified future. Yet Ram Revolution is also our philosophy as we redefine the pickup segment, with a steady drumbeat of announcements and initiatives as we embark on our electrified journey.”

As many fans would expect, that journey doesn’t always involve a driver. Despite copping dual electric motors, the all-wheel drive also comes with level 3 autonomy, meaning that Ram is more than happy if you want to stow away the retractable steering wheel and let the technology take the lead. Some of the other interesting bits peppered on this pickup include a ‘shadow mode’ feature where the vehicle follows the driver from a distance and, much like the GMC Hummer, crab walk capabilities cut its turning radius.
Sadly, Ram hasn’t revealed power or range figures just yet, but the brand did confirm that it can add 100 miles of range within 10 minutes via 800-volt DC fast charging. Some of the futuristic details won’t make it to the production version (due in 2024) like those doors but Ram has indeed done its homework, as evidenced by the radical design and boatload of industry-leading technology.
