Subaru lovers are extremely loyal to their cars for good reason. Over the years, Subaru has proven that their cars are capable machines that can be relied on to get you where you’re going. Showing that reliability is well earned, Subaru debuted a desert racer in 2017. That racer is back on the scene now, sporting a blue and gold finish.
The Crosstrek Desert Racer is a Class 5 Unlimited off-road buggy that will be competing in the Baja 500 off-road race—a race that spans a single loop on Mexico’s Baja Peninsula. Powered by a 2.5L non-turbocharged SUBARU BOXER engine, the racer is capable of 300 horsepower.
“Subaru is best known for its success in rally, but Subaru engines have been used in off-road buggies for years,” states Quirt Crawford of Crawford Performance, the company responsible for optimising the engine. “My goal with the Crosstrek Desert Racer program was to show what was possible with a non-turbocharged boxer engine in an unlimited class, and the results so far have been very strong. I’m looking forward to bringing the car back to Baja this year and showing what it can do!”
Grabowski Brothers Racing will be behind the wheel for the Vegas to Reno race before moving on to the Baja 1000.
