In 2013, Qantas Air opened their Business Lounge in the Singapore Changi Airport. The lounge quickly redefined airport luxury. Now Qantas is expanding on that service with the addition of the Singapore First Lounge. The First Lounge will offering seating for an additional 240 customers, making room for a total of 800 customers in the combined First and Business Lounges—an increase of 60 per cent.
With Singapore representing nearly 20 per cent of the airline’s widebody fleet, the extra space is needed. The expansion is part of a multi-million dollar investment and has a development start date of April 2019.
“With the return of the A380 service to Singapore,” stated Qantas CEO Alan Joyce, “We’ve got more passengers transiting through our existing lounge and strong demand in premium cabins. Our top tier Frequent Flyers tell us their pre-flight lounge ritual is one of their trip highlights and the Singapore First Lounge will be no exception.”
Chef Neil Perry and Industrial Designer David Caon, in collaboration with Akin Atelier, will be coming up with a relaxing environment where passengers can be able to take advantage of shower facilities, a cocktail bar, and an open kitchen with menu offerings featuring the tastes and flavors of Singapore. Whether you’re getting your start in the lounge or just resting between legs, you’ll be pampered with the royal treatment in the new first class lounge.
