Will Etihad’s Wellness Ambassadors Actually Make You Feel Safer in the Skies?

If you’re a little scared to fly right now, we don’t blame you. The world has entered a somewhat strange era where global travel is out of reach for most people and airlines are struggling to stay afloat. But that hasn’t stopped Etihad from popping up with a new venture aimed at making you feel safer in the skies. The airline is introducing Wellness Ambassadors, a group of people who will provide “essential travel health information and care so guests can fly with greater peace of mind”.

Etihad Wellness Ambassadors 1

The news comes just months after the airline announced its Etihad Wellness program, a comprehensive health and hygiene protocol that promised to deliver a more risk-free flight. According to Etihad, the dedicated multi-lingual team will offer reassurance to customers by sharing advice on travel wellbeing and details of the health and sanitisation measures being implemented throughout their journey. Further to that, Etihad will expand the service to include a web-chat option, with all Wellness Ambassadors undergoing special training at the airline’s education facilities in Abu Dhabi.

The prospect of travel does seem pretty foreign at the moment, but when things clear up and we begin to venture out into the wide world again, you can expect to see organisations plug their safe travel credentials. It appears Etihad is just getting in early.

“Providing for our guests, and their wellbeing, is one of Etihad’s core values, and we have a responsibility to protect them, to keep them fully informed, and to provide even greater levels of genuine warmth and personal care,” Tony Douglas, group chief executive officer, Etihad Aviation Group said. “We must guarantee they can travel assured in the knowledge that we have every aspect of their journey with us covered, while still providing a top-quality travel experience. The Wellness Ambassadors will play an important role in delivering this. For us it is not simply about dealing with a new normal – this level of genuine and innovative customer care has always been part of Etihad’s DNA since our inception.”

Right now, it seems weird to introduce new crew members to the mix, particularly amid the aviation industry’s ongoing troubles, but we applaud Etihad for above and beyond. Whether or not the new dedicated Etihad wellness ambassadors will prompt you to get a plane any sooner remains to be seen.
