Triumph Brings Back Steve McQueen Cool for Scrambler 1200
There have been plenty of celebrities that have ridden Triumphs over the years, from Marlon Brando to James Dean and Bob Dylan, but it was the King of Cool that took the Triumph off-road. Steve McQueen’s famous ride from a Nazi POW camp in the movie The Great Escape was done on an aesthetically modified 1962 Triumph TR6. Triumph is tying into McQueen’s coolness in 2021 with a Scrambler 1200 Steve McQueen Edition.

The commemorative bike is built on a base of Triumph’s Scrambler 1200 XE. The bike receives Steve McQueen branding on the tank and handlebar clamp, and has a custom Competition Green paint scheme. A brown suede seat offsets with the green and bronze color scheme and helps to finish the retro styling. The bike also comes with a certificate of authenticity that is signed by Chad McQueen, Steve’s son, and by Nick Bloor, the CEO of Triumph.
Powering the bike is a 1,200 cc liquid-cooled 8-valve twin engine producing 89 horsepower and 81.1 lb-ft of torque. The engine feeds into a 6-speed gearbox with a wet, multi-plate assist clutch. The brushed exhaust system has matching silencers, and provides the tone you want from a bike bearing McQueen’s name. And just like McQueen, you’ll be able to take this bike off-road thanks to the front and rear suspension, which are fully adjustable to a 250 mm wheel travel distance. Regardless of whether you’re on the road or not, the Scrambler 1200 has a riding mode for you. The bike features six advanced riding modes: Road, Rain, Sport, Rider Configurable, Off-Road, or Off-Road Pro.
The challenge won’t be in where you can ride the 2021 Triumph Scrambler 1200 Steve McQueen edition. Rather, it will be in getting your hands on one of these bikes to begin with. Only 1,000 examples of the limited edition run will be made. Triumph hasn’t released any pricing information yet.
