It may not look like much, but the Sol Motors Pocket Rocket motorcycle can hit a top speed of fifty miles per hour. Based out of Stuttgart, Germany, Sol Motors put together the Pocket Rocket—a project that won them the German Design Award because of the bike’s contemporary design. The bike consists of a large cylinder that sits parallel to the ground. Handlebars come out of the top with a saddle perching behind it. The front of the cylinder houses a vintage style headlight, while the back has an LED backlight. A V-shaped cylinder comes out of the bottom providing a place for footrests, with the two wheels in front and behind that V.
The Pocket Rocket uses the QS hub motor, which lands the Pocket Rocket in the city commuter vehicle thanks to its fifty to eighty mile per hour capability. The higher speed versions of the Pocket Rocket feature a 6 kW, 8 horsepower engine; the lower speed versions, a 4 kW, 5.4 horsepower engine. Both versions have 111 ft-lbs of torque. Pocket Rocket also features Heidenau motorcycle tires. It’s also lightweight, coming in at only 121 pounds.
Pocket Rocket can connect to your Android or iOS devices and uses your smartphone as an instrument display. The Pocket Rocket is expected to be priced between USD$6,000 to $7,500 based on the model chosen.
