1979. Aussie legend Bob Morris made history when he raced his team’s Holden Torana A9X touring car to victory over long-time rival Peter Brock. Still unaltered from its 1970s heyday, the Torana A9X spent the better part of the past 27 years in and out of motor museums across the country. Now this legendary vehicle that’s still in running order can be yours, providing you have a million dollars to spare.
Morris’ 1977 Torana is going under the hammer at Mossgreen’s premier multi-million dollar Sydney auction of rare cars. Mossgreen’s auction will feature dozens of the very best and unique models from across the century, ranging from a 1913 Model T Ford with an estimated value of $32,000-36,000, to modern classics like the 2013 Chevrolet Corvette 60th Anniversary 427 Convertible, valued at $135,000-145,000. These two vehicles are bargains when compared to the Torana, with an estimated value between $850,000-1,050,000.
The auction features a blend of original and restored vehicles, motorcycles and even rare numberplates. The New South Wales registration number ‘36’ will be auctioned off for a whopping $400,000-440,000. Imagine the value of the number 1 plate!
The auction takes place on the 28th May at Carriageworks, Sydney. It’s your chance to own a piece or pieces of motoring history. The Mossgreen site has all the info on how to bid and check out the auction highlights below.
