$99 Google Nest Hub Adds Sleep Tracking for 2021

Don’t let its looks deceive you. The 2021 version of Google’s Nest Hub has new features to offer, even if it still looks just like it always has. He Hub still sports Google’s mesh-covered designs done in fabric colours that are neutral enough to fit in with any décor theme.

The 2021 Google Nest Hub centres around a 7-inch display. The bezel includes more sensors and mics, as well as a volume rocker and a mute switch. All those new sensors and mics are meant to entice you to take the Nest Hub into your bedroom—and no, not for the reason that just popped into your head. In addition to the Google Home app that you’re already familiar with, the 2021 Hub measures temperature, light, sound, and a Soli radar chip to track your sleep. The Soli radar uses low power short-range electromagnetic waves to detect motion, so you’ll need to set the Hub up with a direct line of sight to wherever you’re sleeping.

As you go through the setup process, the Hub will need to be calibrated to ensure it is taking accurate measurements, specifically aiming the Hub to measure your upper body and being on the same level as you will be when sleeping. The Hub will track when you go to bed, when you fall asleep, and when you’re disturbed during the night. Google then provides you an analysis of the data in an effort to help you improve your sleeping, which can have a positive effect on your overall health.

The Hub offers all the other features you want in a home automation system. It will link up with other smart devices, and it supports Chromecast and Nest Audio. The Hub offers wellness, home control, media, communication, and discover screen, as well as connections to Spotify and YouTube. Google Assistant is also present to help keep you organised. And it’s reasonably priced at $99.99—and that’s a price you won’t lose sleep over.
