Apple has introduced their newest smart TV and in an off-brand show of kindness the tech titan is giving away 4K upgrades free of charge. That’s right, folks. The new Apple TV will not only deliver your favourite titles in stunning 4K resolution and High Dynamic Range (for those with HDR TVs), but upgrade the 1080p HD titles in your existing iTunes library at no extra cost. Expect sharper imagery, vivid colours and more attention to detail than you thought humanly possible. To make a great thing even greater, the new Apple TV will also offer 4K HDR content from streaming services like Netflix at a to-be-determined date (i.e. as soon as a bunch of billionaires stop brick-walling each other and get on the same page).
Being on top of the world has likely granted Apple a virtually unparalleled view of the tide, and that tide has turned to 4K digital streaming. Using the same A10X Fusion chip that powers the iPad Pro, Apple races ahead of the competition with a manageable pricing system to boot. The TV also supports Dolby Vision and HDR10 on your HDR TV, and includes a built-in 4K video scaler to enhance HD content.
And let’s not forget about the one and only Siri, who’s now smarter and possibly sassier than ever before. Use her to locate the shows and movies you want and make sure she brings up the 4K version when applicable–it’s as easy as a simple request. Apple’s latest smart TV is also compatible with AirPlay, iCloud, iOS devices and a slew of apps.
The new Apple Smart TV 4K will be available for pre-order starting September 15 at $179 USD for 32GB and $199 USD for 64GB.
