Apple 13-Inch MacBook Pro Cops Faster Performance and Double the Storage

After speculation hit a fever pitch earlier this week, Apple has today unveiled its new 13-inch MacBook Pro, and the flagship laptop doesn’t disappoint. The sleek, new addition to the MacBook Pro family comes with a new Magic Keyboard and double the storage. Apple isn’t wasting time with the new release either. The 13-inch MacBook Pro 2020 is available now for a cool USD$1,300 or AUD$1,999, but what exactly are customers getting?

Power

According to Apple, the latest addition provides “the best typing experience ever on a Mac notebook and doubled the storage across all standard configurations, delivering even more value to the most popular MacBook Pro”. Powered by a 10th generation Intel processors, Apple claims the 2020 MacBook Pro will offer users up to 80 per cent faster graphics. Additionally, the tech giant has made 16GB of faster 3733MHz memory standard on select configurations. The new graphics also enable users to connect to Pro Display XDR at full 6K resolution. While the improved performance is a massive plus, there is a bevy of other features Apple fans should be excited by.

Storage and Memory

One of the biggest updates for the 13-inch MacBook Pro is in the storage department. The new addition comes with double the storage of the previous generation, with standard storage starting at 256GB all the way up to 1TB. That means more photos, videos and files for users so need not worry about running out of room. Further, Apple has introduced 32GB of memory, offering up to 50 per cent faster performance when editing gigapixel images in Photoshop.

Magic Keyboard

First introduced on the 16-inch MacBook Pro, the Magic Keyboard has since made an appearance in the MacBook Air, with the latest release finally getting in on the action. The feature is highlighted by a redesigned scissor mechanism with 1mm of key travel. Apple claims this remodelling makes for a comfortable and stable key feel, while the new inverted-“T” arrangement for the arrow keys make them easier to find.

Design

Weighing in a 1.4kg, the sleek, aluminium design is weightier than the MacBook Air, but not disproportionate to the hardware. According to Apple, the 13-inch Retina display delivers more than 4 million pixels, along with 500 nits of brightness and support for the P3 wide colour gamut. Add that with the True Tone technology and you’ll cop what Apple is calling a “more natural viewing experience for design and editing workflows, as well as for everyday tasks such as browsing the web and writing email”.

The 13-inch MacBook Pro also comes with speakers that offer wide-stereo sound, Touch ID, Touch Bar with dynamic and contextual controls, and the Force Touch trackpad.
