Beats by Dre has officially unveiled Powerbeats Pro, the brand’s first totally wireless earbuds. Representing the latest iteration of the fitness-friendly Powerbeats lineup, the buds pack copious fidelity and functionality into a supremely tight package. With their industry leading battery life and perfect fit, they also make for a higher-end alternative to the new AirPods 2. Like that recent release, this upcoming one is equipped with Apple’s proprietary H1 chip, amounting to prime connectivity and truly wireless sound.
Beats went through 20 configurations before arriving at the ultimate shape of Powerbeats Pro earbuds, which feature ergonomically angled acoustic housings and adjustable ear hooks. Throw in four sizes of ear tips and you get a consistent and comfortable fit that remains stable through even the toughest of workouts. The buds are also sweat-and-water resistant, 23% smaller than their predecessor, and incredibly lightweight.
Beats products have always been synonymous with powerful sound and Powerbeats Pro is no exception. It features an upgraded linear piston driver, which pressurises airflow to enhance the acoustic response, vicariously leading to lower distortion and greater dynamic range. That’s joined by the utmost tier of functionality, with controls on each earbud, as well as long and short-range optical sensors for call handling. Speaking of call handling, these are the first Beats earbuds to include a speech-detecting accelerometer, which filters out external noises when you’re talking. Meanwhile, Siri is always just a voice command away.
Rounding out Powerbeats Pro’s bevy of charms is an impressive battery life of 9 hours. Bring the magnetic closure charging case along for the ride and that number goes all the way up to 24 hours. The buds are compatible with both iOS and Android devices and available in a variety of colours. Expect them to arrive this May at a retail price of $349.95 AUD.
