At their much anticipated “Show Time” event in Cupertino, California last night, tech monolith Apple announced a huge update to their already popular Apple TV service, which will bring original content from some of the world’s most influential creative minds, to the new and improved platform, named Apple TV+.
The ad-free, on-demand service will include an array of programming including original TV shows, documentaries and movies, from some of the industry’s greatest minds, including including Oprah Winfrey, Steven Spielberg, Jennifer Aniston, Reese Witherspoon, Octavia Spencer, J.J. Abrams, Jason Momoa, M. Night Shyamalan, Jon M. Chu and more.
“We’re honoured that the absolute best lineup of storytellers in the world — both in front of and behind the camera — are coming to Apple TV+,” said Eddy Cue, Apple’s Senior Vice President of Internet Software and Services.
“We’re thrilled to give viewers a sneak peek of Apple TV+ and cannot wait for them to tune in starting this spring. Apple TV+ will be home to some of the highest quality original storytelling that TV and movie lovers have seen yet.”
Apple TV+ was announced alongside a new Apple TV app, which will bring Apple’s new original content to myriad devices, including iPhone, iPad, Apple TV, Mac, smart TVs and streaming devices. Apple TV is a crowd pleaser for its flexibility, allowing users to tailor their packages and subscriptions, paying only for the content they want to watch, including services from HBO, Starz, SHOWTIME and CBS. Amazon Prime and Hulu are also supported on the newest app.
There’s also the hundreds of thousands of films and television shows already available for purchase on the iTunes Store, which are also available through the Apple TV app.
Pricing and network availability, which differs from region to region, will be announced later in the year.
