Beosound Explore: Bang & Olufsen’s First Outdoor Speaker
Bang & Olufsen’s Beosound Explore isn’t just a name to describe a product, it’s also a statement of purpose. The new Bluetooth speaker has up to 27 hours of “typical listening volumes” per charge, so you can have your audio with you throughout whatever exploration you’re involved in.

The Beosound Explore measures roughly 5 inches by 3 inches by 3 inches—somewhere around the size of your water flask. Its size belies its battery capacity, yet this tiny speaker has longer life than other larger speakers whose batteries tower of the 2,400 mAh battery in the Explore. Part of that longer battery life is due to the use of the new Bluetooth 5.2 standard, which uses power more efficiently. The rest of the equation is the interior of the device, which was designed with power efficiency in mind.
Explore is Ip67 Water resistant, so it can survive being submerged should you find yourself needing to traverse a river or other body of water in your adventures. You can also pair it with another Explore. Finally, it supports Apple, Google, and Microsoft fast pairing standards. The dual 1.8-inch full-range drivers deliver in the audio department, creating 59dB in bass.

Explore is made of Type 2 anodized aluminum, making it resistant to scratches and making it lightweight. “We created Beosound Explore to be our toughest speaker that can withstand the outdoor elements. The speaker is dust and waterproof, embodied in a scratch-resistant Type 2 anodized aluminum surface,” says Christoffer Poulsen, Bang & Olufsen’s head honcho. “The exceptional sound quality for its size makes Beosound Explore the perfect companion for any adventure.” Bang & Olufsen has made the Explore Bluetooth speaker available in two colorways—black anthracite and green. Grey Mist will also be available soon. The speakers are priced for purchase at $199.
