Bowers & Wilkins Revives the Zeppelin for the Streaming Age

Bowers & Wilkins first introduced the Zeppelin line 15 years ago, and things have definitely improved since those early days. Back then, the Zeppelin was basically an oversized iPod dock (do people even still remember the iPod?), albeit it did offer impressive sound. For 2021, Bowers & Wilkins has a new vision for the Zeppelin, though the sound remains impressive.

The latest model offers wireless connectivity that supports 24-bit streaming for Apple AirPlay 2, Bluetooth, and Spotify Connect. If you use other streaming services, no worries, the Zepellin probably covers those as well. A companion app lets you tweak the EQ, adjusting bass and treble levels if you really have to, but the speaker already comes with great sound so there may not be a need. Zepellin also plays nicely with Alexa for voice control.

True to its namesake, the Zepellin isn’t a small speaker. It measures 8.3 by 25.6 by 7.6 inches and weighs in at 14.3 pounds. It also has rounded contours and has a cylindrical shape. The grey of the exterior is very nearly black, and is accented by metallic grey. Behind the cloth grille, you’ll find dual 1-inch, double-dome 40-watt tweeters; dual FST 40-watt, 3.5-inch midrange drivers; and a 6-inch, 80-watt subwoofer. It also comes equipped with a 240-watt amplifier. If you prefer the hard-wire connection over streaming, there’s a USB-C port next to the power supply cable.

The app will help you perfectly tune the speaker to your setting. You can pair the Zeppelin using the app, and you get access to any updates as well as streaming services through it. It’s not a cheap speaker, though. The Zeppelin is priced at AUD$1,199—the most expensive of the line yet. But this speaker has a bright future to it—no, not like its namesake, but much like the rest of the quality products made by Bower & Wilkins.
