The Skullcandy Crusher line was built on the idea of bass that you can feel, so they added a vibrating feature to the headphones. Now they’re adding active noise cancellation, USB-C charging, and a custom tuning feature along with a more premium look and feel to really take the Crusher line to the next level.
Skullcandy’s new ANC headphones come in either black or dark red with an eggshell finish. Memory foam cushioning in the ear pads and on the headband make for a more comfortable fit. The ear cups house 40 mm drivers that work in a frequency range of 20Hz to 20kHz. The headphones can be customized to match your hearing preferences. Using the Skullcandy app, you fill out a personal sound profile by taking a hearing test. This profile then matches performance to match your distinct situation.
The left ear cup has a multifunction button that controls pairing and power as well as a battery check and the active noise cancellation feature. There’s also a slider on this cup that controls the “Sensory Bass” function. This feature employs the haptic bass, living up to Skullcandy’s motto of “music you can feel.” The left ear cup also lets you control the noise cancellation. Just hold your fingers on the ear cup for a few seconds and the headphones will activate the ambient mode, which allows sound from the outside to pass through to the inside. The right ear cup houses three buttons that control volume, tracks, and calls. The Crusher headset uses Bluetooth 5.0 for connecting to audio sources.
The noise cancellation of the headphones offers good coverage of low frequencies, but isn’t quite as good at the high frequencies as competitors Sony and Bose. Sound quality is, as Skullcandy is known for, excellent, especially when it comes to the bass. The hearing profiles if used help to customize the sound so that you can more fully enjoy what you’re listening to. For $599.95 AUD, the benefits make the headphones worth the price.
