The fans clamoured and GoPro listened. Now our favourite action camera is back and more brilliant than ever. Literally. Released today and priced at AUD $749.95 ($499.99 USD), the GoPro Hero6 Black sees the brand employing GP1–a custom made intelligent chip–for the first time. As a result, GoPro’s latest offspring delivers 4K footage at 60fps and a 3-axis video stabilisation system that aims to eradicate the shakes for good. That’s joined by improvements in virtually every department except the exterior design. As it turns out, it’s what’s on the inside that counts after all.
Along with the new GP1 chip came a slew of quality perks. In addition to 4K footage at 60fps and advanced video stabilisation, the Hero6 Black brings three times faster offload speeds, greater dynamic range, slow-motion at 1080/240p and a digital zoom feature among other things. Indeed, your 4K action footage has never looked so firm and polished as it will now. The intelligent chip can also analyze imagery and apply metadata tags for QuikStories, GoPro’s automatic video feature available via smartphone app.
Never one to stop at just the gadget, GoPro is also unloading a small treasure trove of accessories. First up is the Shorty, an extendable pole and tripod that can fit in your pocket. There’s also a Bite Mount and compatible Floaty for those mandatory POV shots. Last but not least is The Handler, a floating handgrip with quick-release mounting. Buy them all and see where your courage takes you.
