Manifold is a ball-shaped conglomeration of 16 RED Helium 8K sensors. Each of the sensors is equipped with 180-degree Schneider lenses. The array is capable of capturing 60FPS VR video in one scene. What that means is that you’ll see a virtual reality that reacts when you move your head and one that provides depth of vision. Manifold is being billed as the: “First studio-ready camera system for immersive 6DoF (6 degree of freedom) storytelling.” In effect, the camera has the ability to free you from traditional 2D filming; instead, it takes you out of the chair and makes you a part of the movie, allowing you to see everything just as if you were actually in the scene. But what about all the crew and storage devices and other equipment? With Manifold, you can stow the control and storage devices up to 328 feet away, well out of the camera’s line of sight.
Manifold is compatible with 6DoF headsets like Oculus Quest. It also uses Facebook’s depth estimation technology to create its 3D view. You can also use Adobe, Foundry, and OTOY for post processing and to render projects.
