The Godfather of Streetwear Dresses Up MSI Z16

Hiroshi Fujiwara has had a pretty busy year. The “godfather of Ura-Harajuku fashion” has been parlaying his global influence in the world of streetwear into several collaborations, including the Nike HTM line, and Levi’s Fenom line. In the midst of creating the “Tokyo” Dunk and other projects, Fujiwara has also found time to dabble in the technology market. Working with MSI, Fujiwara introduced his fragment design signature into the aesthetics of the MSI Z16.

Over his 30+ year career, Fujiwara has worked as a musician, producer, and designer, and during that time he has perfected the fragment design. The signature look is known for its lightning bolt logo. That logo appears prominently on the Creator Z16 Hiroshi Fujiwara Limited Edition, where it is emblazoned on the aluminium body of the laptop.

In addition to decorating the computer, the collaboration also delved into creating a whole array of accessories that complement the laptop, including a mouse pad, mouse, and a protective sleeve bag. Fujiwara also kept with the aesthetics that he likes most, using a black on black scheme for the colour.

Fujiwara wasn’t the only one to be inspired by this project. MSI also took inspiration from their partner, creating the Z16 to be marketed to “Slashies”—people who work in multiple professions and follow non-typical career paths. In other words, the Z16 was created for people just like Fujiwara. To accomplish that, MSI equipped the computer with a GeForce RTX 30 Series GPU and an Intell 11th-gen core i9 processor.

The laptop also features a 1,00-nit TRUE PIXEL 16:10 Mini LED display. The RGB SteelSeries Keyboard steps up the computer quite a bit as well, and with a military durability rating, the Z16 is a computer you can take anywhere the mood strikes. The collaboration is only available in limited quantities—686 to be exact, with 500 of the units being released in the US and the rest in the UK. The MSI x Fragment Design Z16 came available in October and is priced at USD$2,699.
