Corning’s Gorilla Glass 6 Is as Tough as its Namesake

There’s no avoiding it. Sooner or later you’re going to drop that expensive smartphone. And, most likely, you’ll end up with a crack—or cracks—spreading across the glass face. Corning doesn’t think that should be the case.

Corning Gorilla Glass 6 is the toughest glass yet, and with so many devices increasing the size of the glass surfaces and even wrapping the glass around the back, a tougher glass is definitely needed. Corning developed new testing methodologies that are more rigorous than previous approaches. In these new tests, Gorilla Glass 6 survived 15 consecutive drops from one meter onto rough surfaces. Those results are two times better than those of Gorilla Glass 5. How did the competitors’ glass fair? They didn’t even survive the first drop.

Considering that at least once a year people drop their phones from a height of 1.6 meters or higher and four times a year from 1 meter, you’re going to want to make sure the odds are in your favor with a glass that is strong enough to live up to its name.
