GoPro’s tiny action cameras are the go-to gear of choice for millions of people, especially those who want to capture the thrill of adventure and extreme sports without breaking stride (or breaking equipment for that matter). Now the brand is back with a new Hero5 Black that delivers all the upgrades customers could want and continues the brand philosophy that good things can most definitely come in small packages.
Almost everyone on the planet is familiar with GoPro so we won’t waste time talking about the old. Here’s what’s new on the GoPro Hero5 Black. For starters, it’s waterproof by design–meaning you don’t need a separate case to house it in for your underwater adventures. Another new feature is the addition of even more microphones to enable stronger control over things like noise reduction and overall audio quality. Speaking of control, the GoPro Hero5 Black is equipped with both one-button control and voice command technology so you can now start and stop recording with the touch of a button or the power of a simple choice phrase. The Hero5 Black also marks the first time that GoPro cameras include built-in GPS technology and geolocating.
Most importantly, the new Hero5 Black ups the video ante by including advanced image stabilization, a new HDR mode and a field-of-view option called Linear, which can disable the “fisheye” lens effect synonymous with so much GoPro footage up to this point in time. Those with a penchant for still photography will now be able to take 12-megapixel RAW pictures and employ WDR photo mode to capture a striking amount of image detail. So take this baby with you to the nearest pipeline of ski slope and get recording–just look out for that rock!
