OnePlus Pad Teased: Affordable Tablet Set to Challenge Samsung

Feast your eyes on the very first image of OnePlus’ debut tablet. The Chinese consumer electronics giant is aiming to take on existing giants Samsung and Amazon by launching its first-ever tablet, dubbed the OnePlus Pad. Android-powered tablets still enjoy a steady following among tech enthusiasts, partly due to their ability to side-load applications and for big-screen gaming. OnePlus is now jumping into the scene with its debut release and hopes to shake things up just as it did with its smartphones almost a decade ago.

The image of the highly anticipated OnePlus Pad arrives via the company’s official India website, revealing a “Halo Green” colour with the rear camera positioned right in the middle. Even though the image doesn’t give away much, it does reveal a few crucial things about this mysterious tablet.

Firstly, this upcoming OnePlus tablet will feature a single rear-centred camera setup with an LED flash. According to the manufacturer, the decision to position the circular rear camera in the centre rather than in the corner was made because it is “more lined up with your own view.” This new tablet will sport an aluminium alloy chassis that has a slightly cambered frame (meaning it’s a bit more rounded) along the sides. The company claims that this new design will make the tablet comfortable to hold for lengthy stretches of time.

Moving on to the front of the device, the OnePlus Pad seems to feature super thin-looking bezels and a centred single-lens front camera, built into the bezel above the display, along the top edge. Renders of the tablet (as shared by MySmartPrice) reveal that the device will come with an 11.6-inch display, with ultra-thin bezels all around to provide the best screen-to-body ratio.

OnePlus is using the tagline “smooth without equal,” for promoting the device, which might be a hint at a high refresh rate panel. However, nothing has been confirmed as of now. The device in the teased image comes in a “Halo Green” shade, which OnePlus says “blends the vibrancy of life with the vastness of space.” Chances are that the tablet might be offered in other colourways too, but we’re yet to see any of those.

Apart from this, we don’t know anything else about the tablet, its spec sheet, or in which regions will it be made available. The OnePlus Indian website reveals that an event is lined up for February 7, where the company plans to launch the OnePlus Pad, which currently seems to be a region-exclusive launch, with probably more countries to follow in the future. However, the tablet won’t be the only device that the company will be releasing.

The event will see the launch of the OnePlus 11 and OnePlus Buds Pro 2, both of which are anticipated to release in the UK and the US, alongside India-exclusive OnePlus 11R and OnePlus TV 65 Q2 Pro.
