For something that looks remarkably like an ostrich egg, the Powervision PowerEgg X Explorer Aerial Drone has a lot to offer. For starters, it’s waterproof, can fly in the rain, and it can even take off from or land on water.
The original PowerEgg was a bit on the large size, coming in at almost 11 inches in length and weighing 4.6 pounds. The new version has dropped those specs down quite a bit, measuring in at 6.5 inches in length and weighing a trim 1.9 pounds. The arms of the drone attach to the sides of the housing, which puts the camera into drone mode. In this mode, it can shoot 4k 60fps video. In addition to its water-capable features, it can fly in winds up to 18 to 24 miles per hour. It can also stream in realtime 1080p to your smartphone. The PowerEgg also comes with a remote control unit that uses your smartphone as the screen and has a range of up to 3.7 miles. The drone’s AI can also detect obstacles from up to 65 feet away.
If you take off the arms, the PowerEgg transitions into AI camera mode, which lets you use it as a handheld camera. In this mode, the PowerEgg uses multi-angle facial recognition and deep learning technologies to get better shots. It can even remember the subject it was shooting if they happen to leave and then re-enter the shot. PowerVision says that the camera works indoors or out and with both slow and fast-moving subjects.
PowerVision also offers a “Wizard” version that comes with the waterproof housing and water-landing floats. You’ll pay a bit more, but you’ll get everything you need to be able to deal with any water hazards. The PowerVision PowerEgg X Explorer Aerial Drone is available for pre-order and is listed at $899.
