After months of speculation, Google has finally unveiled its latest line of Pixel phones, officially announcing three new releases for 2020. Among the lineup will be the Pixel 4a, an affordable, entry-level Pixel that offers many of the same features we’ve seen in more expensive drops, along with the Pixel 4a 5G and the flagship Pixel 5 to be released later this year.
Available for pre-order now, the Google Pixel 4a was the first of Google’s new phones to be unveiled. Those who cop the new AUD$599 smartphone can expect to see it shipped by September. Under the hood, the new Google Pixel 4a expands on many of the features fans loved about the 3a and 4, but with a few sneaky additions thrown in.
In terms of power, the Pixel 4a has a Qualcomm Snapdragon 730G Mobile Platform, Titan M security module for on-device security, 6GB of RAM and 128GB of storage. Google has also bumped up the battery life, with the brand claiming the new Pixel 4A can now last all day.
The smartphone has the same impressive camera experiences from Pixel 4 and a re-designed hole-punch design. Additionally, the Pixel 4a brings features such as HDR+ with dual exposure controls, Portrait Mode, Top Shot, Night Sight with Astrophotography capabilities and fused video stabilisation.
From a design perspective, the Google Pixel 4a cops a 5.8-inch OLED display and comes in Just Black. The sleek matte finish is complemented by Pixel’s signature mint colour pop power button, but while the new number is isn’t bad looking, where the Pixel 4a really shines is in its compatibility. The new Google smartphone has features like Recorder which now connects with Google Docs to seamless save and share transcriptions and recordings. There is also a Live-Caption feature that provides real-time captioning for your video and audio content and the updated Google Assistant that was introduced last year.
Pixel 4a is now available for pre-order in Australia on the Google Store and at JB Hi Fi, Vodafone and Harvey Norman, with the smartphone landing online on September 10 at those partners and Officeworks.
But the announcement of the Pixel 4a wasn’t the only thing that Google had in store for fans.

Google also offered a sneak peek at the hotly anticipated Pixel 5 and Pixel 4a 5G, the brands first 5G smartphones in Australia. According to Google, a second announcement slated for Spring will reveal all about the two new phones, however, we did learn a few things about the upcoming releases.
Namely, the Pixel 4a 5G and Pixel 5 price will start at AUD$799, with both smartphones coming with 5G as standard. Google claims the new technology with make streaming videos, downloading content and playing games “faster and smoother than ever”. Pixel 4a 5G and Pixel 5 will be available in Australia, the US, Canada, the United Kingdom, Ireland, France, Germany, Japan and Taiwan. “In the coming months, we’ll share more about these devices and our approach to 5G,” Google said.
