The OPPO Reno smartphone series has made its way to Australian shores with two models: one offering 5G support, the other 4G. While OPPO may not have the brand recognition of Samsung, Apple or Google, these smartphones are sleek with an exceptional camera and fast download speeds making OPPO’s latest a worthy competitor.
The OPPO Reno series boasts a large 6.6-inch OLED display covering 93% of the front and protected by the latest Corning Gorilla Glass. OPPO placed the rear cameras completely under glass to achieve a seamless design with zero protrusions.
The full-focal length tri-lens rear camera setup comprises a 48MP primary lens, a 13MP periscope telephoto lens, and an 8MP wide angle lens. The three lenses work together to achieve a 10x hybrid zoom.
Ultra Night Mode 2.0 elevates the clarity and brightness of night photography, and both phones boast 4K UHD video recording at 60fps, complete with optical and electronic image stabilisation. The concealed front-facing camera silently rises (or pops-up) and lowers on demand. Each action takes just 0.8 seconds.
For security, the Reno Series comes equipped with a light-sensitive, under-the-screen fingerprint sensor. Also, it’s worth noting that the Reno series does not have a headphone jack.
Reno is powered by Qualcomm’s latest Snapdragon 855 mobile platform, with optional 8GB+256GB storage, and a 4,065mAh battery, which some reviewers claim can last 2-3 days of casual use. Both 4G and 5G models are equipped with fast-charging technology.
The Hyper Boost 2.0 feature allows users to selectively improve performance for gaming, system speed, or app opening speed.
Both models run on ColorOS 6, OPPO’s operating system which stands out through its borderless display, customised user interface, colours, fonts, and app drawer.
During the official launch event, last week in Sydney, OPPO Reno’s 5G capabilities were tested, clocking download speeds of 1,942 Mbps.
Speaking at the launch, OPPO Australia Managing Director, Michael Tran said: “We’re excited and proud to be bringing Reno to Australia, offering customers superior speeds and amazing value.”
“5G has been a hot topic for a long time now. The wait is over. 5G is here.”
The OPPO Reno series is available in Australia from June 11. Both models come in two colours, Ocean Green and Jet Black, and feature a matte texture beneath the back-glass panel.
The Reno 5G is priced from AUD$1,499 while the 4G variant is AUD$1,199. For a limited time, buyers score a free set of Bose SoundSport Wireless Earphones valued at AUD$299.95.
